You might’ve seen an image uploaded to Instagram the other day of Mia Goth posing for the camera, wearing a slogan t-shirt that read, “MY EX IS MY BIGGEST FAN.” The post, which was uploaded just days after she publicly filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf, seemed like a bold statement for Mia Goth to post to her verified Instagram account, @miagoth_. But apparently, it actually wasn’t Mia Goth.
The British actress (as seen in Suspiria (2018), Pearl (2022), Frankenstein (2025), The Oyssey (2026)) made a statement this week that the image circulating online was AI-generated, and fundamentally not real. She revealed that her team has filed multiple complaints with Instagram due to @miagoth_'s, a verified account that is not owned by her or her team, repeated posting of “counterfeit, AI images” of her.
Christine Tripicchio, spokesperson for Mia Goth, said in a statement that, “The fact that this fan account meets Instagram’s criteria to qualify for a ‘blue check’ is disconcerting on a fundamental level,” and went on to say, “Beyond that, it is incomprehensible that Instagram evidently prioritizes the dissemination of forged and manipulated images over the protection and integrity of a public figure’s likeness.”
Shortly after this statement had been made by Goth’s team, a spokesperson from Meta announced that the @miagoth_ account had been removed from Instagram “for impersonating a public figure” Apparently the account, which was labeled as a fan account, was able to acquire a blue checkmark due to its roughly 1 million follower count. Meta also appears to have no current restrictions against AI-generated images of real people.
Whether Mia Goth and her team will take further action against Meta and/or the owner of said copycat account has yet to be determined. Stay tuned for updates.
