We all love our UGGs, but wearing them in this heat isn’t always a vibe. That’s why multidisciplinary designer and long-time UGG owner Nicole McLaughlin has partnered with UGG for their Fall campaign featuring the debut of their Deconstructed UGGs, designed to adapt to all different seasons, occasions, and lifestyles.

For The Deconstructed Collection, UGG’s iconic silhouette has been reimagined in three styles, removing the traditional fur lining to create a collection of shoes perfect for the summer.

We sat down with Nicole McLaughlin to find out about what it was like working with UGG, how she shot the campaign with her bestie Angie, and more. Keep reading to find out.

Congrats on your link up with UGG! What was it like linking up with the brand?

“Thank you!! It was such an exciting opportunity and kind of a full-circle moment. I've been a longtime fan of UGG, and their products have even found their way into a handful of my creative projects over the years.”

Your design practice often explores deconstruction and reconstruction. What drew you to being part of the deconstructed UGG campaign?

“When UGG invited me to be part of the campaign, it felt like a really natural fit. My work often explores deconstruction and reconstruction and finding new ways to rethink familiar materials/objects. The deconstructed design of the shoe shared a similar vibe, which made it exciting to help tell that story.”

For the hot weather we’re having right now, the unlined construction of these UGGs is ideal. What do you like about them?

“I wear UGGs year-round, so I loved the idea of something that felt just as comfortable during the warmer months. The unlined construction makes them lighter and more breathable, making them an easy shoe to throw on no matter the season :)”

I also love the campaign, it feels like a very genuine depiction of female friendships. What inspired the shoot?

“Thank you! Shooting the campaign with my friend Angie made it feel especially meaningful. We met through climbing in NYC a few years ago, and our love of climbing and running quickly turned into a great friendship. Some of our favorite moments happen after we're done being active, grabbing a coffee or a meal and spending time together. Changing into something comfortable is just part of that ritual, so the campaign felt really true to us.”

Lastly, how do you imagine someone styling the new UGG shoes from the Deconstructed Collection this summer vs. this winter?

“I think the new deconstructed UGGs would look great with a skirt or mini shorts in summer, and with baggy pants in the winter!”
