On September 22nd, 2026, the fashion industry’s most grailed names headed to Fondazione Prada in Milan, hungry to feed on Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons latest vision. Each season, the designer duo behind Prada, one of the most-watched brands alive right now, offer up their shared interpretation of society, culture, and how they're shaping the fashion of the future. This season, for Prada's Spring/Summer 2027 show, they're seeing big things for the skirt.
With the likes of Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), Sadie Sink (Stranger Things), Alexa Chung, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), and Charli D’Amelio on the front row, the futuristic show room was buzzing with anticipation as guests took their seats. For many, Prada’s understanding of fashion and the way it’s progressing is effectively gospel, so seeing how Miuccia and Raf predict new trends and interpret current ones each season is highly anticipated.
As the show begun, one thing became clear: this collection had a main character, and she was the skirt. As Prada’s creative directors explained in their show notes, their SS27 collection looked to understand “the skirt as object,” through an “interrogation of this single, universal garment, through protean variation.” In all 63 looks revealed on the runway, Miuccia and Raf made sure the skirt was the focal point, imagining the same classic, mid-length, A-line silhouette in a myriad of different ways.
Velcro was a signifiant feature on many skirts, embroidered with crystals or used as a fastening, allowing the wearer to style their skirt in a shape that suits them. Fabrics were intertwined in unusual ways, with ciré matt, Re-Nylon translated into plissé, and cotton treated to resemble leather or suede. And, while the skirt may have been the show’s main focal point, accessories were also a highlight, revealing bras with lace cut-out cups, a bag with a clasp originally designed by Mario Prada, and kitten heels with bow details.
