Talia Mar just turned your most toxic relationship into a music video, and we’re obsessed. This week, we got an exclusive look at Talia’s new music video for her single “Suit & Tie”, which dropped today, a song about going insane in a relationship trying to make it work.
As Talia told us, “Suit & Tie” wasn’t actually written about an ex – it’s about someone she used to work with – but these toxic relationships can manifest in many forms. “Whilst the song wasn’t written about a romantic relationship,” Talia explained, “I feel like everyone has had that relationship where they feel like they’re the only one trying.”
Shot inside a church, the “Suit & Tie” music video set had such a powerful aura, which Talia told us was intentional. “The music video is quite dark and a little bit eerie. The video is based on a girl who thinks she’s getting married. As the video goes on, she comes to realise that actually she needs to get out of this.”
Here’s what went down when we spoke to Talia Mar about her new single, opinions on the music industry, and who she’s inspired by right now.

Congrats on dropping your latest single, “Suit & Tie.” Can you tell us the inspiration behind the track?
“I wrote this song a few years ago and at the time, it was written about someone in my team who was senior to me. I started noticing that whilst I was trying everything I could do to make that relationship work, they were doing everything they could to tear and break me down. They presented themselves as this almighty person and no one else was at fault.”
“Since coming out of that, I have realised that that type of relationship has been lived by so many friends or different people I have met in my life, I feel like everyone has had that relationship where they feel like they’re the only one trying. By the time the other person tries, it’s just too late. Whilst the song wasn’t written about a romantic relationship, I did twist it and present it as that because I think that’s what most people experience.”
What’s the vibe of the music video for “Suit & Tie”?
“The music video is quite dark and a little bit eerie. I really wanted to capture how you feel like you’re going insane in a relationship like this and how you feel like no matter what you do, nothing works. The video is based on a girl who thinks she’s getting married and actually she’s not, she’s the only one there and everything is falling apart around her. As the video goes on, she comes to realise that actually she needs to get out of this.”

Who’s inspiring you in music right now?
“I would have to say Raye, I feel like she is every independent artists go to. I have followed her since day 1 of her releasing music and I think she has gotten better and better becoming the most incredible artist.”
I know you’re big on your horror movies – I saw your iconic Halloween costume – but if “Suit & Tie” were in a movie soundtrack, which genre would it be?
“A Thriller because as you listen to the song, you realise this person is losing their mind and that is super thriller-esque and I could see it being in the background of someone realising that nothing is as it seems.”
Back in 2024, you become an independent artist after your then label held a single back from dropping. How much did your career change after that?
“It is really hard to tell because I fell pregnant only a few months after leaving the label so I took somewhat of a break. My career and perspective changed but it is so hard to tell what caused what because so much of my life changed at once.”

What advice would you give to smaller artists in the same position now that you were in then?
“I would say trust your gut and while you’re not always right, when it’s your career you are often right.”
I know you’re a gamer. If “Suit & Tie” were turned into a custom skin, what would it look like?
“Ooooh it is too obvious to say a Suit and a Tie but I think something similar to what the music video is. A dead bride, black veil – a dark twisted version of a bride.”
What do you think the music industry needs more of?
“The music industry needs more transparency. People still to this day won’t tell artists what they actually think but then be telling everyone else what they think. It’s not that they’re not sharing their opinion, they’re not sharing their opinion with the person that matters the most in that scenario.”
