When people say “Tara Yummy mindset” they mean something very specific. It’s this relaxed, confident, easily happy attitude to life that makes you most fun person at any party. That’s the mindset I’m trying to have rn, so I asked Tara Yummy how to get it.

Tara Yummy, who’s been on all our mood boards for a while now, started out on YouTube but has since transformed into a digital creator, DJ, and It-girl in her own right. Known for her Y2K aesthetic, she’s got a healthy reputation as one of the most fun party girls in LA who’s famously hosted some insane events, so it makes sense she’s embarking on her first ever DJ tour, the “Tara Yummy’s Mindset” tour.

Kicking off her “Mindset” tour this month, where she’s travelling around the US hosting insane club nights where she’s behind the DJ decks, Tara Yummy’s teaching us how to have her mindset with a pretty hands-on approach. Show up at the “Mindset” tour, and you’ll find out. Here’s what Tara told us when we linked up with her in the midst of touring the US.

What mindset do you want people to bring to the “Mindset” tour?

“I want people to leave anything going on at home, any ego they have at home, any embarrassment they have at home. I want people to dance. Dance with their friends, bring their partners, just have a good time with their loved ones. I want people to leave anything going on at home, and just dance and live in the moment.”

As a veteran party host and vibe curator, what are three things that every good night needs?

“I’d say good people – good people is like the most important one. A good DJ, so good music. And an open bar. I feel like it’s impossible to have a bad night with those three things.”

Can you tell me about the best night out you’ve been on lately?

“I went to “The Moment” movie premiere with my friend Madeline [Argy], and then we went to the after party, which was super fun. I had like three too many Aperol Spritz’s, and then we went to back to her house. We were going to eat, but instead, we had another drink, changed, and then went to our favourite bar/club. And then we all hung out back at her house. It was just, like, club, another place, another place, another place, and it was a really, really fun night. I can’t go to the details, obviously, but it was a great night.”

Fashion-wise, how do you tend to dress for shows when you’re DJing?

“Oh, definitely something cool, meaning, as a little fabric as possible – I get so sweaty. I have to have a fan right in front of me when I DJ, because it’s just like, so sweaty. I usually go with style over comfort, but in this scenario, I do think that I put my comfort first. So anything that’s a micro short or a tank top. Anything with straps: a tube top is never a good idea.”

Are you wearing flats or heels?

“Do you know, what’s so funny is that was definitely a discussion that was had before the first show of the tour. I was going to wear these giant Pleasers, like stripper heels, because they were cute, and they were making me taller. But I ended up just going with flats. I think either way, anything that looks cute with your outfit. I think that I will eventually probably wear a heel during a set.”

What’s your favourite track to play right now when you’re DJing?

“I feel like it’s a crime not to say “Yummy” by Ayesha. People go crazy when I play that one.”

Do you ever play it more than once in a set?

“I totally do, because sometimes I’d be at a concert and a singer would play my favourite song and I’m like, ‘can he do it again? Like, we need that one more time.’ Because the first time it’s like the screaming and the excitement, the second time you can enjoy it. I tend to play two different versions, maybe like a remix, and then at the very end, I usually play the original for everyone.”

What’s a song that could wake you from a coma?

““Girls” by The Dare.”

Obviously you’re touring the U.S, but in the world, where would you say people party the hardest?

“Oh, definitely Europe. Probably, like, Ibiza, from what I’ve heard, [although] I’ve never been.”

If you could go on a night out with anyone, who would you choose?

“Bill Nye the Science Guy. I feel like he would take care of me. Because he’s so scientific, I feel like he would know the drinks to drink, which drinks not to drink. He would just be an overall good time. Like, have you ever seen Bill Nye the Science Guy in a bad mood? No. And the second you start feeling like you can’t hang, he would put you in an Uber and send you home.”

Lastly, what’s one thing you want people to bring with them when they come to party with you?

“A dance partner.”
